March 2023

We had a wonderful time at Dogstar Cabin. Steve was welcoming and friendly. He arranged to transport our stuff to and from the cabin which allowed us to enjoy our surroundings. The cabin was a warm and cozy home base. It was nice to unplug and unwind for a couple of nights. We went out exploring the beautiful winter trails and enjoyed the snowy weather. We will definitely come back during a different season and hope to see the stars.

We stayed at Steve’s place to celebrate a birthday. WOW, being there felt like a drug. Being away from the city and its noise was surreal. And the stars.. absolutely breathtaking!! We will definitely be back, except that time it will be much longer!

Set back from the road, the Stargate cabin is private and peaceful. The surrounding land and wildlife are beautiful and pristine. My time at Le Terrain provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with myself and nature; thank you Steve for holding this space, as well as diligently and respectfully maintaining this sacred land. The trails kept me and my pup busy during our week long visit. Steve was responsive, helpful and also incredibly patient with my rambunctious pup. Overall an excellent time, and I would highly recommend a visit for anyone looking to unplug and get back to the basics.

February 2023

— Melanie

Within minutes of arriving you shed the stress of the city and really just enjoy being in the woods. Awesome area for dogs, Loki was completely spent at the end of each day. Will return without question.

February 2023

Great spot with outstanding view over the landscape and the stars. Steve helped with our luggage to the cabin and always made himself available to address any of our needs right way. Very unique and memorable experience.
— Hugo
February 2023

Our trip to LeTerrain was exactly what we needed – Stargate1 is the perfect balance between comfort and wildness. There is something about watching the stars from a cozy bed with wolves howling in the distance after a day of snowshoeing. Our order of 2 days worth of Steve’s perfectly cured firewood was a treat. Everything else was provided as per the listing. Thanks Steve 🙏
— Brendan
February 2023

Great spot, wonderfully peaceful. Steve was a great and responsive host. Wishing I was back. Certainly warm enough in the winter with the propane alone!
— Thomas
February 2023

We stayed at Steve’s Stargate 1 cabin during one of the coldest weekends we’ve seen this winter yet! It didn’t stop us from having a great time. Steve made sure the cabin was cozy by the time we arrived Friday night and we managed to get some snowshoeing in early Sunday morning after the cold weather subsided on the beautiful property. Steve was a great host and the cabin was just what we wanted for our remote getaway weekend.
— Eren

January 2023

Lovely yurt stay surrounded by nature. If visiting in the winter, prepare to get the wood stove going and thawing everything inside before it really starts to warm up. It was relaxing to slow down and just focus on the basics for a couple of days. Steve is an excellent host and the property is stunningly beautiful. We loved exploring by snowshoe (we brought ourselves).
— Rebecca
January 2023

We loved our stay in Stargazer. Once the clouds cleared and the stars came out we were blown away. Very beautiful and peaceful.
— Allison
January 2023

Beautiful little wooden yurt very cozy, it was wonderful to wake up surrounded by nature, the yurt is secluded enough to feel alone in the middle of the forest. Definitely an experience for the adventurers, cozy for one night in winter keeping the fire going. Trails were wild but well kept enough not to accidentally go off trail. Beautiful scenery, stars and wildlife with many trails to explore.

Another flawless stay at Stargate, wow!

January 2023

Steve was the best host my boyfriend and I have had & we have been to a lot of cottages. He was extremely helpful and very kind. When we couldn’t figure something out, he came to see us and helped out and then came back later to bring us some extra things he thought we’d need like a lamp and a box to plug more things into to. Was the best experience ever, had the best time! Thank you Steve :)

January 2023

Cabin, as described, is exactly what you need to restore your energy to be able to get out for your next great adventure on Steve’s wild and thriving land of mountains, creeks and old growth forest. What better can you ask for than a simple and comfy place to rest (from the hours of hiking right outside your doorstep)and dry off your gear by the woodstove as you hear the wind rustling from the valley and the river flowing through the boulders below (the view is astounding). Steve was an amazing host, good balance of giving us space to play on his land while being there to support (even went out got us toothpaste) and guide us when needed. Truly a gem in our region, thanks for protecting this amazing place Steve!
— Cleo
January 2023

— Lila
December 2022

Wonderful stay! The place is magical in location and view. You are taken away into wilderness that makes any struggle of the hike to location easily worth it. The cabin is cute and perfectly sized. I’d bring a non-fitted sheet for the top bunk as it’s an odd shape next time but the views, and cozy factor cannot be beat!
— Ross
December 2022

The yurt is amazing. We stayed in December and had a great time exploring the land on snowshoes. There were enough trails for a day’s worth of snowshoeing (we did about 10km and covered most of the land). We saw a couple of other people who were staying in one of the other cabins, but most of the time we had the woods to ourselves. The temperature outside was about freezing but the yurt was still warm inside with the stove on. We didn’t need to get up in the night to tend to the fire, it stayed warm enough, though this probably isn’t always the case in winter. Also for information, as I couldn’t find it on the listing - there are no power sockets (as expected for somewhere off grid), but there are battery-powered lamps so you have light in the evening. Steve was friendly and helpful, and kudos to him for what he’s done with land. We were happy that we were sharing the cabin with a cute mouse, who was quite tame and ran across our feet. If you love off grid adventures, stay here.
— Beth
December 2022

November 2022

We had a fantastic stay in the Dogstar cabin! It was clean, well-organized, and had everything we needed, including water, kitchen supplies, and firewood. We loved how secluded it is and how it’s on top of a hill, giving us really nice views. We also really enjoyed the varying difficulties of the hiking trails. I highly recommend the Dogstar cabin to anyone wanting to spend some time in nature!

November 2022

Très bel endroit et très belle expérience, correspond à la description faite par l’hôte. Aucun problème à signaler, le pit à feu et le hamac sont un gros +. Belle escapade en nature. Je le recommande à toute personne désirant s’évader en nature et observer les étoiles.

October 2022

My boyfriend and I loved experiencing Steve’s Magical Yurt. We were able to bring our dog with us which was really important when we were looking for our weekend getaway. We were able to disconnect and explore the terrain while staying at the yurt for the weekend and our dog had an absolute blast. We were able to watch the stars at night outside and stay cozy and warm thanks to the wood stove inside the yurt. It came fully stocked with firewood, plenty of water, and a bag of ice as well as essentials like matches, some pots and pans, oven mitt, etc. If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing experience, I highly recommend booking this space.
— Avery
October 2022

This was our second stay at Le Terrain and certainly not our last. Communication with Steve is effortless and efficient. We had previously stayed at the Yurt and we decided to check out Star Gate this time. Star Gate is a fantastic little cabin with all the amenities one needs for an escape from the city. There is a lovely hammock overlooking a pond where we spent the afternoon reading and watching the resident beaver at work. The loft was very cozy and offered a wonderful view of the cosmos above. Thanks again Steve!
— Fred
October 2022

Absolutely magical. Perfect off-the-grid experience, comfortable and easy to stay in the yurt and the wood fire stove kept it plenty hot. Definitely want a yurt of my own someday now.
— Price
October 2022

We had a great stay at the Stargate cabin! The view was amazing and the weather was luckily on our side. The bed and couch were not the most comfortable though, and the ladder to the loft part was hard to navigate at first, but that’s part of camping. The pots and pan were not the best either, but we managed. The endless trails were lots of fun to explore, though the map might need to be updated as some trails didn’t seem to exist anymore? But we sure had a lot of fun and enjoyed the peace and quiet that can only be found in the wilderness. The small heater in the cabin was more than enough to keep us cozy and though we did have a mouse friend visit us every night, the stay was quite pleasant!
— Shelsey
October 2022

It was our second time staying at the yurt and we had a wonderful, very peaceful time. Highly recommend!
— Jiliane
October 2022

If you are looking for the perfect Fall getaway look no further. Dogstar cabin has everything you need for a relaxing, tech-free holiday.
— Annemieke
October 2022

We stayed at the Dogstar in early October and highly recommend. The trails are great to walk through. Some are harder than others, but it was fun to have that variety. There’s very little that beats the view that you get from the top of the mountain. unfortunately when we went, it was slightly overcast, so we didn’t get to see many stars. Will have to go again!
— Anne-Marie
October 2022

Had a great stay! Place is exactly as described! Great view at night and the hammock by the water is fantastic!

If you’re looking to disconnect from technology and connect with nature this is a great place to do it. The hike to and from the car only took us 10-15 minutes each way so don’t let that intimidate you, it’s fairly easy walking. Thanks for the great stay Steve.

July 2022

Absolutely loved staying at this cabin. Everything was as described. Private, quiet and lots and lots of stars! Very relaxing place to be if you want to unplug from technology. Cabin itself has a fully stocked kitchen with dishes, Bodum for coffee and a really great cast iron pan for cooking on the BBQ. There is also a propane stove to cook on which was also very nice. Absolutely love that this is a dog friendly place. Steve was also an amazing host! Very good communication and very helpful. Would highly recommend! Will definitely be coming back to try this cabin in different seasons.
— Wendy

Good basic rustic yurt in wilderness. Very quiet and secluded. Feels like typical nature stay.
— Amrut
July 2022

Dogstar was was such an amazing place to stay. The views into the valley are breathtaking, you will never run out of things to site see. The hike into the cabin is not challenging by any means and it’s highly satisfying once you reach the cabin. I recommend bringing binoculars with you for bird watching as there are a bunch of great species around the area. At night, the stars glow so bright and we were lucky enough to catch a couple of shooting stars. The silence of the woods is what I loved the most, and the incredible fresh smell of being surrounded by endless trees. Steve was an incredible host; so responsive, highly hospitable and you can tell he takes great care of the land. It’s a tough job, I can imagine. Consider supporting his efforts by booking one of his cabins and seeing for yourself just how wonderful it is. We intend to be back again, perhaps to try either the Yurt or Stargate so we can enjoy it all! Thanks again Steve.

April 2022

If you’re looking for a private escape into the wilderness then this is the spot! We saw nobody for days, and heard nothing but the sounds of nature. We enjoyed exploring the property which was fairly easy to navigate with the Avenza maps ap. Lots of gorgeous scenery and interesting landmarks to discover. The cabin itself is quaint and has everything you need to be cozy. The wood fire kept us perfectly comfortable. Steve graciously greeted us upon arrival and made himself available if needed. But everything was so well equipped that it wasn’t necessary. Perfect serenity, just the two of us in the woods:) It was really quite a special experience. Thanks again Steve for sharing your property. We will definitely be back to explore more.

March 2022

Steve and his yurt are wonderful. Host is a great communicator, and set up our little yurt for us with the nicest little touches. It was a great weekend and I can’t wait to visit more of Steve’s air B&b’s in the area. Wood stove keeps you very warm, we slept well! Two of us shared the futon, one slept in the hammock. The road to get to the spot can be a little muddy/ puddle filled in the spring rains, just a quick heads up for you city drivers! 10/10 recommend, and will be back!
— Emma
March 2022

We had a great time at this cabin! Even though it rained all weekend, there was still enough snow left for some snowshoeing. The wood oven fire was the perfect touch. We went in expecting an off the grid escape and it did not disappoint!
— Stephanie
March 2022

If you are looking for a place to unplug and unwind this is it. My sister, our two dogs and I could feel ourselves relax as soon as we opened the door to our toasty cabin. (make sure you bring a tshirt as the cabin heats up beautifully with the fire going) Steve has certainly earned the super host status. We hiked on the beautiful, peaceful trails, we created our own snowshoe trails following the deer, my sister even went tobogganing. The loft bedroom is spectacular with the skylight and windows, made viewing the almost full moon, while staying toasty was incredible. Waking up in the middle of the night to see the stars overhead was fantastic.
— Annemieke

March 2022

We had an excellent stay at the Dogstar cabin. It’s got all the essentials even though it’s off grid. You’re there to explore the trails so hopefully won’t be spending a ton of time indoors. The property is expansive and awesome to explore. Some trails are pretty obvious others take a bit more imagination to find/follow. Definitely use the Avenza Maps app. Snowshoeing was awesome!!
— Bruce

Amazing and private nature escape at Steve’s yurt. The yurt has everything you need to enjoy a cozy off-grid weekend away, and Steve has put care into every detail, like the chopped wood for the wood stove, the water jugs, and the cooler for food. The property is beautiful and so fun to explore! This was our second year at Le Terrain and we will certainly be back soon. Thanks Steve!
— Hannah
February 2022

We loved our winter getaway at Dogstar! The view from the cabin is amazing. We spent the weekend snowshoeing the trails, having fires, and spending time together off grid. Steve is an excellent host with beautiful property - we’ll definitely be back!
— Madison
February 2022

The Dogstar cabin was everything that was promised to us! Steve has a beautiful piece of land that anyone who is looking to disconnect would be fortunate to enjoy. The view is incredible an everything we needed aside from food, clothes and bedding was already there for us. Be sure to get up for the sunrise over the valley during your stay!
— Cara
February 2022

We had another great weekend at Le Terrain, this time staying at the magical yurt. We brought lots of blankets and the yurt warmed up well once we had the wood stove blazing. We brought a camp stove that we didn’t need, the wood stove worked well to heat things up and boil water. The trails are lovely for snowshoeing, the map app recommended on the Le terrain website was really great to have. If you hunger for absolute silence , sleeping in , reading a book, beating your spouse in a game of cribbage , and having a cheese fondu with a glass of wine, this place is a gem.
— Ena
February 2022

It was the perfect little getaway! The cabin was well equipped with the essentials. The land is amazing, we had a great time exploring. The stars were beautiful at night and we were lucky to have clear skies all weekend.
— Stacey
February 2022

This is the perfect place for those looking to unplug, unwind and reconnect with themselves and nature. There were nights when I was able to hear the wolves howl as I fell asleep under a very clear and star-filled sky. And there were also nights that were quiet and cozy as a seemingly endless snowfall settled over the forest. But regardless of what each night had brought, it always gave way to an incredibly peaceful and picturesque morning. There was no shortage of things to do. I really enjoyed exploring some of the trails at Le Terrain and checking out the charming, sweet little village of LadySmith. I couldn’t have asked for better hosts than Steve and Inook! Very helpful and kind. I can’t wait to come back up.
— Jennifer
January 2022

Steve was a great host going above and beyond to make sure we we’re comfortable in the -30 weather! The yurt that we stayed in was very rustic, but had all the basic necessities for a off the grid stay. The hammock and comfy chair were both great for reading by the fire during the day. Also a great spot for pup’s, mine loved running around the trails all over the 450 acres on the weekend. Would absolutely recommend and we’ll be back ourselves.
— Catherine
January 2022

Simply beautiful place that allows you to unwind. Steve is a host who is available and attentive to our needs. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get away and will definitely go back!
— Kathleen
January 2022

Steve is a fantastic host and this cabin will not disappoint. It’s very comfortable and well equipped. Plus you won’t ever get tired of the stunning views day or night, the howling wolves, the stargazing, the sunsets and sunrises. It goes on…
— Chris
January 2022

Fantastic experience. This place is all about the vast swathes of land you can explore freely. The cabin is just a base camp but it’s quite nice for a off the grid type thing. Propane stove/heater, inside toilet and solar panel gives the place convenience while retaining that off the grid feel. The cabin is located in a beautiful and isolated area that makes it feel like you’re in your own little world. Not mentioned in the ad is a nice hammock with a good view! Steve was also easy-going and helped with any arising issues quickly. Highly recommend, only downside for me was having to leave!
— Blaze
January 2022

If you’re looking to get away and recharge your batteries in the woods, this is the place for you! Clean and warm micro cottage with all the essentials(as described) surrounded by a fairytale marsh and a walking couple from a network of private trails in a mixed forest. Breathtaking view of stars and wild animals. Thank you for sharing this beautiful project Steve and for being so helpful, we can’t wait to come back!
— Cleo
January 2022

— Sarah
January 2022

This was just what we needed! Some time to relax and enjoy the nature! The cabin was nice and clean and had everything we needed! Would definitely come again!
— Toby
January 2022

Steve’s yurt is a great little escape from reality if you are looking for an off-the-grid experience in the Quebec wilderness! The yurt is quite spacious and clean, and there is plenty of comfortable seating. There is also a propane BBQ and an outhouse separate from the yurt. Our pup Kona loved her visit. The three us slept quite comfortably on the futon. One could even try sleeping in the hammock. As is to be expected, on very cold nights you have to feed the fire additional wood every few hours which does keep you up - but otherwise the yurt can get quite warm and comfortably cozy. We were glad to have brought slippers and lots of blankets to add to the coziness. We were also able to boil our water and toast our bread right on the wood stove inside the yurt. The well water also tasted delicious. Though we did not have the pleasure of meeting Steve personally given the COVID restrictions, his online communication was great and everything was set up for us upon our arrival. We are very grateful Steve shared with us his magical yurt surrounded by beautiful forest and under the amazing starry sky!
— Sophie
December 2021

This is the cutest little cabin. A perfect space to detox from the dopamine hits of daily life and explore the wilderness. Unfortunately, the skies were cloudy so we didn’t get to experience the main attraction but we can’t control the weather. I’m happy I brought additional cooking supplies to supplement the bare essentials at the cabin because we love to take time to cook well while away. The fire was my favourite feature. If you’re using the fire, ensure you’re aware of the temperature upstairs—it’s magnitudes hotter than downstairs with the slope of the roof—especially around bedtime. Both nights we overheated ourselves and couldn’t get the airflow to push the extreme heat out.
— Amanda
December 2021

Great experience!
— Sadaf
December 2021

Wonderful place. We’ve now stayed at all of Steve’s place on Le Terrain. This may be our favorite!
— Malcolm
December 2021

An out of this world experience! Binoculars strongly recommended. The night sky doesn’t get much better than this, and the cabin viewport is an awesome feature. Lots to explore during the day too!
— George
December 2021

My partner and I went up to Steve’s cabin for a weekend getaway and it was fantastic! Steve was always super quick to respond and answer questions, the directions to get there were super clear (we even arrived in the dark and had no problem finding the place!), and the place was just great. It had everything we needed. The cooler with ice and the cabin being warm on arrival were super nice touches. There was definitely a mouse we heard scurrying around the first and second night, but it’s a cabin in the woods so it’s to be expected. The wood burning stove and skylight more than made up for it! I would definitely recommend to anyone!
— Alexandra
December 2021

Steve rocks. The yurt rocks. The land rocks. Easy access from Ottawa for a deeply essential and spiritual mind shift. (Also, I only saw 2 stars due to cloud cover but the land, yurt, and wood stove was enough). Steve will help you find the best path for your skill level and make sure you have enough wood to stay warm. Book now.

if you want to leave the city to get some fresh air and zone out this is the place to go. i’ve had plenty of conversations with the trees surrounding me and they were great (lol) . it’s so peaceful, not a single sound, quiet at its best. The cabin was nice and comfy. Simplicity at its finest and that’s the way we like it. The view is great, the stars were nice and bright. Steve Is an awesome host, He was there for us, he would reply to our messages quickly. Will definitely be back for more. Thanks Again Steve.

November 2021

Cabin experience for the true nature/camping lovers!! Perfect escape from the city life! We were lucky to have both nights clear for star gazing! Milky way was more then visible and so are the shooting stars ❤️ Gas stove is a bit tricky you have to push down on the knob while turning to release gas- but once you figure that trick out smooth sailing! Lots of water left by Steve, and an ice cooler! We were there during hunting season- so we didn’t explore the trails as much as we would of liked, but regardless the starlight property has more then enough to enjoy and relax! (Including a hidden hammock) The wood stove is perfect for keeping you warm in the colder months and jist so cozy to have going while we played cribbage or had dinner! You definitely will not be disappointed if you have experience camping and love the outdoors❤️❤️ Thanks Steve! Cheers, Mel, Kevin and Morty

October 2021

Steve is a fantastic host! My mom and I stayed at the Stargate1 and it was perfect. Everything we needed was there, including the serenity and calmness of his vast property and trails. We didn’t know what to expect, and brought extra supplies, just in case, but it not necessary at all. The cabin looked to be newly fixed up with new barn board as it smelled like wood and the outdoors - such a fabulous smell. We will definitely be coming back here. Without hesitation, I have already recommended Steve’s place to a few friends looking for a getaway.

September 2021

This place is really unique and so lovely. Very peaceful and relaxing with lots of little trails and fun things to do around in the outdoors. Sleeping below the skyline was super cool and made the whole experience so much more fun! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a little more of a rugged off-the-grid type experience as there is no running water or electrical outlets (aside from one USB outlet). It’s the perfect escape from busy day-to-day life. I really enjoyed my time here!
— Josie
September 2021

Perfect escape from Montreal. I spent an early autumn few nights there so no/minimal insects and ideal weather for relaxing. The space is very well stocked in terms of utensils, etc so it was quite luxurious. I managed to get one bar of reception but you won’t want to use your phone anyway. Kick back and chill. I’ll hopefully be back again!
— Fernando

August 2021

Great place, off a very pretty dirt road with a beautiful lake next to a cute little franglais town. These rocky backwoods in which people speak a lot of both of our national languages just seems so Canadian! The cabin is a lovely tiny house but the doors can be a little tricky. Make sure you lift up the screen door when you close it ;)

August 2021

To put a perspective, if you are someone who appreciates nature, calmness and peace, this is the place to disconnect and reconnect with yourself and with nature. We were group of 4 and we enjoyed the patio and firepit immensely, the house has a tree house aesthetic vibe that makes you feel how far we have got with materialistic things and be grateful for everything that we have. Steve is an amazing host and very responsive on the texts, he is very humble and passionate about the experience that he is offering to the guests. P.S: Please bring your own stuff to keep yourself entertained like board games or a book to read. Put the phone aside!!

Stargate was a truly amazing place. The cabin felt like it was dropped in the middle of the forest and was uniquely curated to make you feel like a spectator to the land around you. It was clearly built with great respect and attention to detail and is so beautifully crafted and comfortable. Everything is very easy to find and use. We spent our days discovering the trails and our nights by the wood stove or looking up through the skylight. The solar panel helped produce ample lighting at night and created a rustic, romantic atmosphere. It was thoroughly relaxing and serene experience.

March 2021

I reached out to Steve looking for a place to rest and to reconnect with nature. Also living full time in wilderness in an another part of QC, I was looking for something simple, raw and authentic - leaving between me and nature almost nothing. The land allows that. The skies at night are absolutely insane, especially with the wolves and the perfect darkness. I’m so curious to see what it’s like during summer 😄. if you seek luxury and comfort for your body, keep looking. If you seek for luxury and comfort for your mind, you found the spot
— Jean-François
March 2021

Awesome property where you can enjoy outdoors and wilderness, while not sacrificing too much comfort! I’ve been to several shelters across Québec’s National parks, and I can tell Stargate is a luxurious one. I particularly enjoyed the gas cooktop and the lighting among amenities, although what definitely stood out is the cabin itself—such a stylish space! Steve was helpful and really responsive. He warmed up the place before we got there and made sure we had actually arrived safely.
— Antoni

We had an amazing time here! It’s crazy how quiet it was during our hike, so relaxing! It snowed a lot right before we were supposed to leave but we we’re very impressed how fast the backroads were plowed and made safe for us. Will 100% be coming back here in the summer!

February 2021

We really enjoyed our weekend at the Dogstar cabin. The vast view over the valley is amazing. Pure wilderness! What a nice spot to watch the sun rise! We went snowshoeing during the day and relaxed at the cabin. Steve was very helpful! Thank you!
February 2021

This is a magical camping experience in a nook of wilderness. Steve has done an amazing job at acquiring this land and turning it into a special place for people to connect with nature and have a spiritual or personal retreat. There’s lot of trails to check out nearby and the yurt is super unique. It’s got everything you would need for a comfortable off-grid experience: lots of wood to keep you warm, plenty of clean water, cooking essentials, a bed/hammock and a wicked space in general. I got the chance to explore the snowy and sunny trails, hear some beautiful wolves, see the stars clearer than I’ve seen before and connect with myself and decompress from the chaos of everyday city life. Highly recommended.
February 2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend on Steve’s incredible property. The cabin was lovely and cozy, with some highlights being the wood stove and a few thoughtful touches like a heated cabin upon arrival and a cooler for our food. Our favourite part of the cabin was the loft bed, where we could lay and gaze at the stars above! What truly stood out about our weekend above all else though, was the interesting and beautiful terrain for hiking. We came across a beautiful lookout where we had our lunch, and overall, it felt like we were the only people for miles. Steve was accommodating, and he and his dog Inook were a pleasure to meet. We will be back!
January 2021

Steve has an amazing spot. The cabin is what we expected. Great views, silence and a good spot to enjoy the nature.
January 2021

Steve was fast to communicate and a great host. He went out of his way to warm the cabin before our arrival and small touches like the cooler with ice were so nice. The cabin is an amazing space, it has everything you need to be comfortable. The sleeping area gives you the feeling of being completely immersed in nature. The trails around the property were fun to get out on and snowshoe. This cabin is the perfect weekend getaway!
January 2021

It really is an absolutely beautiful place. The clarity of night sky was amazing and it is so peaceful and quiet. It was very cold (not a surprise, it’s mid-January!). We brought extra wood so we could have a fire outside to cook our food, in addition to having the wood stove going non-stop. The wood stove did a great job of kept the cold at bay. My tip is to bring lots of blankets, winter clothes and slippers!
January 2021
Magical would be the first word to describe this yurt. Getting lost in a winter wonderland, unplugging with my partner and connecting on a spiritual level has me completely blissed out. My mind body and soul hit a reset during our two night stay. I will never forget this experience.
January 2021

Had a wonderful stay in the very secluded and cozy yurt. We enjoyed exploring the trails in the beautiful forest with its many surprises and mysteries. Would definitely like to return and hopefully hear the wolves!
January 2021

Cozy winter stay. Very relaxing and peaceful to have part of this vast property to yourself. With clear skies you can leisurely watch the stars. Cabin though a small footprint had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Plenty of places to go for a walk.
January 2021

We had an amazing time staying in this Yurt! It has a really cozy atmosphere and is very clean. It was so peaceful being surrounded by the forest. Steve made our stay super comfortable as well, whenever we needed anything he was there ASAP and was super nice! We will definitely be back.
December 2020

We really loved our stay here! The loft bed area is so cozy and bright and has great views of the property. It looked especially beautiful after it snowed! We had everything we needed in the cabin and the trails on the property were really well marked (with the map) and beautiful.
December 2020

Amazing spot for a quiet get away ! We spent three nights at le terrain and they were great ! The cabin was very well equipped with USB charging ports and plenty of lights and hooks. The propane heater and wood stove were more than enough to keep us warm. We had tonnes of fun hiking around in the woods with our dog , and star gazing at night. Without a doubt recommended to everyone looking for a peaceful get away in nature .
December 2020

Steve was a great host who provided all the necessities to make this off the grid experience all the best. The nightly views and pure coziness of the wood stove made this cabin a well needed retreat. Will be back! Seeing Mars through the skylight as we fell asleep was an added bonus!
December 2020

It was a wonderful peaceful experience. Thanks to Steve for his generosity and creating a magical space. I enjoyed exploring the area, reading and reflecting. It was my first time in a yurt and my first trip with my cat. I think she enjoyed the space too.
December 2020

This is such a quaint place! We rented this lovely isolated yurt for two days and it was magical! It has all the amenities you need. When we arrived it was sparkling clean! It was so nice to disconnect and read in the yurt. You are also extremely isolated so it felt very safe! Steve made sure we were comfortable and was always fast with the communication. Also, it was great hiking in 450 acres. Definitely get familiar with the map as we got lost a few times and required the phone gps to navigate back! Highly recommend!
December 2020

This was a neat experience to do winter camping, we enjoyed our peaceful and quiet weekend in the secluded yurt!
December 2020

What a wonderful place nestled in the woods. Our favourite part was being in the middle of this beautiful wild forest in the quiet wilderness. thanks to Steve for being so responsive and really helpful. we had such a lovely time.
December 2020

My wife and I stayed for the first time for a weekend at Le Terrain (Stargate-1) and enjoyed it very much. Steve, our host, was very responsive. The weekend was a great opportunity to ‘unplug’ and really enjoy the fresh air and quiet offered by the surroundings. We made sure to explore the hiking trails during the daytimes. The cabin was cozy and had all of the essentials; in particular the wood stove was a treat to have during the cold evenings of early December. I will definitely go back to Le Terrain again to check out the other accommodations.
December 2020

My boyfriend, myself and our dog had a great mini getaway to this cute off grid cabin. We didn’t have the best weather while we were there but we still enjoyed some of the many trails available on the 450 acre property. I was nervous that the bed wouldn’t be very comfy but the foam mattress was surprisingly comfortable and the wood stove kept us toasty warm all night. We would love to stay here again in the warmer months so we could fully enjoy all the hiking trails and hopefully get some clearer skies to see all the stars. Overall it is a great littler getaway for those who enjoy a more rustic cabin.
November 2020

What a wonderful retreat and getaway! I can not thank Steve enough for allowing dogs as those places are hard to find! It is so cosy, rustic, peaceful place to be. The bed is a couch and very easy to set up as a bed and very comfortable! The woods that surround the Yurt are fantastic! What a wonderful place to explore! I highly recommend for an off grid getaway! You won’t be disappointed!
November 2020

Dogstar cabin has everything you are looking for during a gateway in wilderness. It is clean, has enough power and Steve makes sure that you have lots of water and wood to burn. The cosy atmosphere and vast view, as well as the walking trails, amazed us and our dog Poro. She enjoyed being in this hidden forest and our walks all around. We had to leave early because of the snowfall warning (our car was not ready for it) but will definitely be back to see this magical cabin in another season. Thank you Steve!
November 2020

This was a magical cabin with an amazing view and everything you’d need for a small getaway from the craziness of modern life. 10/10

November 2020

A stargazer’s paradise in the middle of a 450 acre forest in northern Quebec with a woodstove burning by your bedside. What more could you ask for?Thoughtfully curated with a variety of solar powered lighting. The lazy camper’s rustic retreat with infinite wilderness to explore. Our pup loved it too! Thank you Steve for being such a wonderful host. We will definitely be back!
November 2020

Steve was a wonderful host! He was very quick in responding to any questions we had. He gave us tips on where to explore on the trails. Stargate was a very cute and cozy cabin with an amazing view. Thank you for such a memorable experience! Would definitely recommended!

November 2020

Stay at Le Terrain and disconnect to reconnect! It is healing, evocative & serenely peaceful. Steve is the perfect host with his gracious demeanour. It is evident that he has a deep love for sharing his incredible land and all it has to offer. He is extremely helpful - discrete yet communicative and quickly available & responsive if you need him. The Yurt is indeed ...magical. The structure itself is extremely compelling and supremely comfortable. It is well equipped & clean, and the wood stove keeps you very warm! As a lover of the forest, the yurt is the perfect way to feel totally enmeshed. Hiking through the the forest and just sitting with its enchantment does not get old as there is always something to discover. There is certainly an evocative silence that draws you in. I have also had the pleasure of staying in Steve’s other cabins and there is no doubt, something very special about Le Terrain. I believe that you will absolutely find what you are looking for (and more) during your stay there. Thank you Steve!

November 2020

Steve was truly a great host! We had a chance to chat with him while he was refilling our wood and propane (which we hardly needed apart from cooking because of the wood stove!) LeTerrain is an incredible place, we had an absolute blast hiking and hanging out around the cabin which is surrounded by forest, natural rock, and a beautiful pond and stream that is in perfect view from inside the cabin. We had seen that a recent review mentioned a lack of trails and figured it was likely a misunderstanding with the fact that this is 450 acres, because old Canadian Shield forest doesn’t have to have man made trails to provide an excellent hiking experience! Although there is a long main trail throughout for people with kids, but otherwise bring your boots and visibility wear and step off the path to see for yourself! There is so much nature to explore. For two people who do not hike ever, we were able to manage the hills and terrain by staying keen of both the elevations and wetness of the forest floor. We were fortunate to experience every type of weather with the first week of November snow as well. The cabin itself is perfect, it is a gorgeous design inside and out. The exterior is a natural wood and dark stain / painted black around the front door where there is a couple steps up to a great porch with a small grill. Inside is decorated beautifully (a Pinterest dream) and the layout is very functional and open for the space. There is plenty of seating, we sat at the table or on the couch or floor, tended to the fire, cooked, drank, and played a lot of scrabble when not outside exploring, but the views from inside the cabin were serene and beautiful. It’s situated in an excellent position on the property as mentioned - the floor to ceiling living room windows face the pond and stacking forest terrain in the distance, the kitchen window is the length of the counter and a great height to peer out while cooking - there is a dep not far out if you forgot anything! The bathroom is lovely, has a small mirror but plenty of room for toiletries on the small wood slats, and has a clean easy to manage eco toilet. The lighting and outlet worked perfectly via the solar panel as well. And then there is the bedroom loft. The loft itself is via a latter-style stair case. It is more latter than stair but just be mindful to not carry to much up at once! From below, floor of the loft comprises 1/3 of the ceiling above the living room / kitchen, but does not intrude on the living room and kitchen space at all! When upstairs, the cozy ceilings go practically unnoticed due to the stargazing windows, but it is also plenty spacious length wise for storing luggage or extra bedding or etc. The bed was smartly chosen - it is a thick foam which was very comfortable but also low enough to not take up your line of vision in the space, which otherwise is filled by the windows. There is a long panoramic window, a window to the right, and the iconic sky light above the bed. It was a perfectly comfortable sleep and wonderful to wake up with the sun. Be aware too that this beautiful space is still a wood cabin off grid - some critters may try and join the party so be mindful of putting away food properly inside and outside. We had a hilariously confused woodpecker next to our window, and one terrified tiny field mouse likely getting out of the weather - to which we would have brought a trap or two otherwise if we’d thought about beforehand! Steve was great in response to our visitor though and added some more sealing to the cabin to help prevent any more unsolicited entry :). Overall this was a lovely get away / screen break after from working from home these last months. We can’t recommend it enough honestly, and can’t wait to book another trip! Thanks again Steve.

October 2020

Superbe terrain, excellent pour une immersion en nature.

October 2020

What an amazing two days we spent off grid. The cabin had everything we needed and with colder weather it was perfect to sit by the fire each night while watching the night sky emerge. Our hikes around the expansive property were incredible- so many amazing views and surprises along the trails. Steve was easy to contact and quickly answered all our messages before the trip. Oh, and how incredible to lie in bed looking up at the night sky! We’ll definitely be planning another adventure here soon. The trails will be so beautiful in the winter!

October 2020

I just spent a week at the cabin in a solo writing retreat and it was amazing. The view over the valley is stunning, and so different every day. It is an incredible treat to have the woods and trails all to yourself (my dog had a blast!). And the cabin is perfectly comfy and cozy, especially if you like things rustic (and I do). Steve is a fantastic host.
October 2020

Had an amazing stay in the magical yurt. Steve is a very thoughtful host and added all sorts of cozy touches to this yurt. He even had the fire going in before we showed up so it was so wonderful to arrive to some warmth. The scenery is absolutely magical and cozy. Lots of lighting and cooking utensils in the yurt, so no need to overpack supplies.

October 2020

This place is awesome! Small, cozy, cute, majestic... If we have a chance we would like to come back during the summer and see what this place brings when it’s a bit warmer. Come! You’ll love it!

October 2020

The yurt is super cozy, and it is exactly what u would expect of an off grid. It has amazing hikes and beautiful foliage. We got a couple of chilly nights with some -3oC temperatures and the wood stove kept us incredibly warm throughout our stay. We especially enjoyed having a hot cup of coffee early in the morning, breathing in that crispy fall air. The property is ideal for stargazing and on our 2nd night we actually got to hear the wolves howling as soon as the sun set. Communication with Steve was simple and straight forward. Overall great experience!
October 2020

We absolutely loved our stay at LeTerrain. Staying in the yurt is a ton of fun. The woodstove inside is super cozy. At night we had the opportunity to have a small fire outside, watch for shooting stars, and listen to the wolves way off in the distance. During the day we enjoyed hiking throughout the amazing forest. Our dog could not have been happier. This place is definitely a dog paradise. We 100% recommend a stay at LeTerrain’s yurt and look forward to when we can return.

October 2020

The Dogstar cabin delivered as promised: amazing views, abundant stars, good walks, and a cozy interior. The stove kept us warm and we used the solar-powered energy to see what we were cooking and to clean up. A nice getaway.

October 2020

This place is beautiful. Such a great way to get away, disconnect and enjoy all that nature has to offer. Stargate was exactly as advertised, a quaint, rustic cabin with everything you need. We were lucky to have a couple of clear nights and sleeping under the stars was amazing! The surrounding trails and views were beautiful, and our dogs thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of the 450 acre land. Steve was an amazing host, who was always available for questions or concerns, and even gave us suggestions on our walk to check out a particular view. This was our second stay on Le Terrain and it most certainly won’t be our last - we look forward to our next getaway!

October 2020

This was our second year staying at the Dogstar Cabin and the only way to accurately describe the experience is: “wow”. Steve is an awesome host and Inook is the most handsome wilderness pup. We got to hear so many more coyotes (or wolves/coy-wolves) this time around and felt so grateful. This is the ultimate release for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of noisy city life and needing to recharge. Will always HIGHLY recommend ❤️ Tip: this experience is pretty off-grid and intimate so get ready to put those phones away, light a fire and just sit back and breathe it all in.

October 2020

We had a great weekend getaway in the yurt. The yurt itself was well equipped and very cozy. The location was gorgeous and private. We enjoyed exploring the land around the yurt and reading outside by the fire. Perfect way to scratch our camping itch but in comfort.
October 2020

Without a doubt one of the best experience!! My favourite part of the trip was waking up in the morning to the sounds of the wolf hauling. The perfect getaway from the city to reconnect with nature. I’ll recommend the guided tour by Steve for first timers to outdoor living. Almost forgot - the view form the cabin is unreal especially in the fall!!

We had an amazing stay in the Stargate cabin! Beautiful skylight above the bed and amazing views in all directions. We especially enjoyed our day hiking throughout the property with even more incredible sights! The cabin was nice and cozy and all we needed for a weekend! Thanks for the stay:)
September 2020

This cabin is rustic and cozy! Its perfect for the setting and has everything you need to truly unplug and enjoy nature! The view is amazing and the cabin is super private! Steve is an exceptional host, you can tell he really loves his property. Looking forward to our next stay!

September 2020

Wow! What an amazing place! The views are absolutely breathtaking. The opportunity to experience nature in its purest form was life changing. Steve and Julian (The brother trainee) :) were fantastic hosts and super nice guys. They were warm, welcoming and very helpful. They helped us so much by taking our gear up to the cabin and then back down again on Steve’s super cool off-roader. We sincerely can’t thank you enough for this magical experience. Hope to be back, and highly recommend to anyone who is up for an adventure!

September 2020

LeTerrain is an amazing place. The cabin was cozy, clean and had everything we needed. The trails were great and we had a wonderful time exploring. But the best part was the stars - make sure you book on at least one clear night! Steve even included us in a stargazing session that was the highlight of our summer!
September 2020

This little cabin in the woods is an excellent place to get away from the city and reconnect with nature. Admittedly I found it a little hard to leave as I drove away. This might be a yearly tradition for me.

September 2020

Very nice place to stay in the wilderness, very clean and Steve is available throughout the stay
September 2020

If you like quiet and want a little escape with great views and you dont mind being off grid then this is the place. Great that it is so close to Ottawa.

September, 2020

Often when you click an Airbnb listing headline, it’s because something in the title caught your eye. In this case, the word magical is not untrue. What a stunner of a place. Definitely rustic, so be prepared for that, but it’s clean, dry and, yes indeed, magical. If you’re lucky you might hear the wolves (I was lucky!) Even if you don’t, you’ll get to live in a cathedral of nature for a short while. I came to replenish my soul, and I did. Steve is an excellent, conscientious host. It was a pleasure to stay in his magical yurt.
September 2020

September 2020

If you are looking for something off the grid away from people and the busy body life, this is the place to go! It is truly a magical stay with beautiful views and trails that are all yours to explore. Steve is truly a super host and makes sure that your experience is as great as you want it to be! We are thankful for the memories made here and look forward to coming back in another season.
September 2020

If you’re looking for a true getaway, surrounded by incredible wilderness, this is it. We stayed at the Dogstar Cabin for 4 nights and it was difficult to pull ourselves away at the end. Yes, you’ll lack certain amenities of “civilization,” but that’s kind of the point. This experience is a good reminder of how much more we notice when we are fully present. Thank you, Steve, for protecting this land and for sharing your vision with others. We will be back! :)

August 2020

This cabin and the natural amenities of Le Terrain offered the off-grid experience my partner and I needed after a long pandemic isolation. The five hour drive from Toronto was smooth and scenic, if you exit 401 at Oshawa. We stayed for a week with our hound who was thrilled with the trails and wildlife. Steve provided water and ice at regular intervals and we learned about the property and his story on a walkabout with him the last day we were there. The cabins and yurt have space from the historic farmhouse where Steve lives and from each other. All you can hear are nature sounds - the wind in the trees, the toads on the pond, the chipmunks in the layers of decomposing leaves. We walked for hours - at times needing a compass as we bushwhacked some of the lesser-used trails - and we couldn’t get enough of the beautiful evidence of organic decay, e.g., the tremendous variety of fungi and lichen. The Stargate1 cabin itself is well laid out with entry off of a large deck that faces the beaver dam pond. On the deck there were two patio chairs and a tabletop grill with a propane tank, plus the solar panel that kept the lights on and our cellphones charged all week. Inside there was a small dining table that we used to organize our gear, a wood stove, a small foldout couch with a footlocker as coffee table/ottoman, a cooler with ice, washroom with composting toilet and mirror, and a relatively large kitchen area. In the kitchen there is a two-burner propane stove and a dry sink with 5-gallon jug that drains to a grey water system. Up a well-constructed ladder is an approximately double-sized foam mattress surrounded by windows and topped by the skylight - even though it’s not a treehouse, it feels like one when you are lying in bed! This was a one-of-a-kind trip for us: simultaneously relaxing and invigorating - and the context had everything to do with it

August 2020

If you are looking to connect with nature and have just a more comfortable experience than camping, this is the perfect place. The hiking trails Steve has mapped out are great and we loved exploring. The view from the cabin is beautiful and you can hear wolves howling in the valley. Would highly recommend! Steve’s hospitality was also great, he drove our stuff up to the cabin for us so we didn’t have to carry it.

August 2020

So cosy and romantic. It didn’t stop raining but enjoyed staying inside. My dog loved this place, and we did too!

August 2020

Our stay in the ‘Magical Wooden Yurt’ at Le Terrain was indeed magical. The yurt is even lovelier than it appears in photos and we were very cozy & comfortable during our stay. Steve was an excellent host, very communicative and made sure we always had what we needed while still leaving us with plenty of privacy to enjoy our anniversary getaway. What really makes this place special though is the beautiful land! Hiking along the ample trails on the property was definitely the highlight of our visit. I was particularly enthralled with the sheer volume of wild mushrooms throughout the woods- most varieties I had never seen before and couldn’t name if I tried. As mentioned in other reviews- the starry night skies are gorgeous as well! My one tip if you’re staying in the Yurt is to bring some camping chairs to sit outside, there is one wooden bench by the fire pit, but if you’re like me and prefer something with a back to lounge on you’ll need to pack it with you! Overall it was a pretty near flawless stay. We definitely hope to be back one day!

August 2020

This place is a fantastic getaway. The accommodations are secluded and modest, but it was an incredibly luxurious stay - the views are otherworldly and the land has so many features explore. The cabin provides a relaxing space to unwind at night and is cozy and comfortable. What really makes it special is Steve’s dedication to making your stay seamless. He is flexible, communicative and cares about all the little details. His passion for the land is contagious. We are definitely planning a trip back in the future.

August 2020

We had a wonderful stay, enjoying the peace and beauty of nature. Cozy, rustic, and (mostly) no cell service. Steve was so nice and helpful too. The only thing we didn’t experience was the sound of wolves howling in the valley – but that just means we’ll have to come back. Thanks for hosting!
August 2020

If you’re looking for quiet, peace, and nature this is definitely your place to stay. There is everything you need (with BBQ outside and tourist fridge). I feel in love with inside hammock - what a great idea! Also, I must mention Steve, the host. He is the type of host that really cares about how your stay was and it’s great! Thank you, Steve! :)

August 2020

If you are looking for a place to disconnect from the hustle-bustle of city living, and to reconnect with the simplicity of nature, this is definitely the place for you. It’s most definitely in the wilderness, so if you’re not comfortable with being directly in touch with the elements, I would steer clear. But if you are a true nature lover and want to feel like snow white, chirping with the birds and the woodland critter, then your fairy tale awaits. The stars are mind-blowing and it’s no joke that this may well be the darkest sky you’ve ever seen. Everything about this place is awesome and you’re going to want to go back multiple times.

August 2020

This place is AMAZING! If you like nature and wilderness, this is the place to go! Steve is also an amazing host and he wants to make sure that you are as happy as you can be!

August 2020

What a fine time we had in the yurt. A day of rain slowed us to a tranquil stop at the beginning of our 5 night stay. The yurt is cozy and quickly felt like a home in the woods. Steve never let us run out of water or ice for our cooler, managing to be both discreet or on hand for any questions or tours around his land. A great host and a great experience. Get off-grid! It’s good for the soul. Ah, it’s good for your dog too.

August 2020

This family or solitary experience is about the whole terrain. And the opportunity to meet Steve and contribute to a larger project. And if the weather is on your side, the skies will bring you somewhere else.

August 2020

Steve was extremely hospitable, he replied quickly to all messages and was happy to help with any questions or request. The Yurt is out of this world, I cannot imagine a more peaceful get away. The woods were beautiful, the yurt was clean and felt like home. We were lucky enough to get a beautiful day filled with sun, and the next day was a rainy day. At first, we were a little disappointed. But, this ended up being the best part of our stay! The rain was so peaceful and do to this, we were able to use the little fireplace in the yurt which were not expecting. It was so nice and warm, we enjoyed some s’mores with a good glass of wine, there is nothing better! The rainy day really ended the weekend on a high note. We got the chance to visit the town and have some fish and chips at LadySmith Hotel, the fish and chips were unbeatable we highly recommend stopping in and having a little lunch, the people working there are extremely kind, a man came in stranded and needed a place to stay and they made sure to take care of him, we were so impressed with how kind and caring everyone was, we really felt at home. As you can already tell we cannot stop raving about this little spot! We are already looking forward to planning another visit!

July 2020

Perfect spot to be alone in the wilderness! I really enjoyed exploring all the trails, steve was really nice, bring a gps if you have one, it’s useful if you want to go down to the small river!

July 2020

The first time getting to the cabin, we fell in love with the expansive view from the hilltop. It’s a beautiful, secluded, and truly off-grid place. Steve was a lovely host who was quick to reply. He helped bring extra supplies whenever was needed. He ensured our stay was as safe and comfortable as possible. Will definitely look to come back another time. Would like to visit during a different season.

July 2020

We loved our stay in the yurt. We stayed two days, a bit cloudy so we couldn’t quite enjoy the starry night, but we had a great stay, away from the city’s noises. Be sure to bring insect repellent if you come in the summer season as the deer flies will otherwise go for you. We brought our two dogs and had an amazing stay and did a bit of walking in the woods. Thanks, Steve!
IMG_5125.JPG
July 2020

The yurt was a cozy little getaway in the middle of a vast natural landscape. We hope to do a little more exploring next time - when there are less bugs! The bbq was great for cooking, and the bed was comfortable. Steve was extremely accommodating. Recommended if you need to disconnect for a while!

July 2020

A great getaway weekend, truly surrounded by wilderness.

July 2020

Get ready for a true off-grid escape but with the comfort of a cozy cabin with a gorgeous vista. The screened in porch was definitely a highlight — we spent most of the days lounging there on the mats Steve provided including a few nights under the stars. The network of trails offer a spectacular variety of landscapes and give you a great sense of the this area of the country — bring good bug spray, hats, long sleeves and pants (and maybe bug nets) if you’re visiting in the earlier part of summer as the bugs also love the long days as much as humans. The solar panel and battery pack provides more than enough power to keep the lights going and to charge phones (bring a USB adapter since the USB plug didn’t seem to work for me). Steve was also a great host — kind, responsive, never intrusive, and always glad to help out or answer any questions. He loves this land and it shows. Overall A+ experience. We will be back.

June 2020

Had a great relaxing getaway!

June 2020

Lovely quiet spot for an off-the-grid escape. Our golden lab loved exploring freely. All amenities working perfectly and Steve was very quick to respond to us when needed. Be sure to bring bug spray if going in summer!
IMG_5123.JPG
June 2020

What an incredible little spot! It was well stocked with candles, pots and pans, dishes, cutlery and a French press. The pull-out futon was super comfortable. A very unique getaway close to home, we loved it!

March 2020

This was our second visit - a warm, cozy, beautiful and adventure-filled March weekend!
March 2020

The yurt is the perfect weekend getaway, even in early Spring! The trails around the property are great for an afternoon walk and the yurt has all the basics you need.
March 2020

Steve’s cabin is perfect if you want to get away from the city. Great view!

March 2020

The cabin has an amazing view and it doesn’t matter what time of day you’re looking at it. We heard a pack of timber wolves howling every morning and afternoon; it is absolutely majestic. Our dog loved following the trails left by the deer and snow mobiles. With nobody around he was free to roam. Inside the cabin is a wood stove capable of getting the inside nice and warm with minimal tending. There is a propane stove/oven combo that works exactly as expected. The solar panel and battery array was more than competent enough to charge 2 smartphones, a portable speaker and mini projector. All basic necessities were provided for along with blankets, pillows and wood for the stove. Many flashlights and lamps were provided along with batteries, matches and candles. The windows have blackout shades which work great as a projector screen! There is no refrigeration but a cooler was provided without request. Using an eco-toilet is an experience and the powered fan really helps! Surprisingly Bell has a little LTE service in the area, but enough to Netflix if wanted. Steve is awesome. He checked in with us prior to arriving as it was going to be dark and wanted to make sure we’d be safe after the day before snow fall. He offered to bring our stuff up and down the mountain but we declined in favour of hauling everything on our Canadian Tire $10 sled as part of the experience! Due to the recent snow fall there was no way for us to park without getting stuck. When we returned to our car for our departure, Steve had cleared out the area around our car and the driveway out, got us unstuck and back onto the road.

February 2020

My fiancee and I were looking for a quiet, off the grid, relaxing weekend in nature. This space was exactly what we were looking for. The Yurt itself was really cute and quaint. It had the the essential basics. Steve provided all of the necessities we required and was always available if needed. The area had beautiful snow-shoeing trails that we spent all weekend. Also, our dog loved the space as it was remote and it allowed him to run free and explore along with us. In the Yurt it was extremely peaceful to sit by the wood stove and read our books in the hammock. Overall, a wonderful place to stay and we would definitely return!

February 2020

Steve is a great host, he made sure everything was ready for us. The place is very cozy and the view is amazing like we expected. I would totally recommend this place for a nice getaway.

February 2020

What an incredible 24 hours to recharge, uplug and connect to silence and nature. Such a special place ... Loved the uniqueness and warmth of yurt, the stars, the land, the howling wolfs at night. Magical indeed! Steve is a beautiful, genuine host and is so proud of his property. We were greeted by big smiles and all the info we needed. So grateful for his kindness from our first communication. Hard to leave and can’t wait to return. Loved the look of the new cabin too! Amazing. Thank you!

February 2020

We enjoyed our time in the yurt enormously. Steve had a cozy fire going when we arrived. After the drive from the city, we appreciated the short walk from where we parked the car. The yurt is well equipped with pots and dishes; outside is the bbq (although we cooked our food on the stove), and a cooler as well. We were very comfy on the sofa bed, with lots of pillows. The solar lights are delightful. We were warm, and relaxed completely. We also appreciated the trails as did our dogs and we did some exploring. Loads of deer around and we heard wolves, saw a peregrine falcon and woodpeckers. Can’t wait to go back in another season.

January 2020

Steve’s yurt is stunning; the carpentry is masterful and the space is beautifully set up. Steve made sure that we had everything we needed and went out of his way to ensure that we were comfortable. The forest surrounding the yurt is enchantingly beautiful and we walked on the trails in the back to a stunning lookout. Such a special addition to a winter camping experience! We had an absolute blast and look forward to being able to stay again. Don’t miss this place if you want a fun adventure!

January 2020

Steve’s place is wonderful, and the cabin is lovely in the winter time. Not only is Steve incredibly communicative, he’s also gone above and beyond to make sure our stay was smooth and safe. Our cabin was toasty before our arrival even though there’s a snow storm outside. It’s the perfect place to unplug, unwind, and be in nature completely off grid. I hope to return one day during the summer seasons to explore some more!

December 2019

Absolutely wonderful place. We love everything about this property, from the hiking/ski trails, to the nearby towns , to the night sky. Our dog looks forward to this newly minted holiday tradition of having winter fun at Le Terrain. We’ve stayed at the yurt and the cabin, and recommend both highly.
December 2019

Great place for hiking, beautiful night sky, you could hear wolves howling at night, and Steve is a great and gracious host. Thanks for a wonderful winter getaway!
October 2019

This is a wonderful place with an extraordinary host. My partner, pup and I absolutely loved our time here and are already excited to stay again. Steve, is a fantastic host who really takes his time to make you feel welcomed. The Yurt its self is beautiful and homey, and honestly very warm haha. We loved the watching the stars at night and listening to the wolves howl at the moon, it was a very immersive experience and a great way to disconnect and relax. Thank you again Steve, and see you soon!
October 2019

Nice place to stay on fall season..try to come with wragler or any modified 4x4 vehicle..lot fun to drive on trails
October 2019

Steve’s place was great. True authentic off the grid nature experience! Yurt was comfortable and charming. The property was amazing , private and filled with trails to explore. Great lookouts for seeing the fall colors & star gazing at night. Steve was a great host , easy communication and passionate about the property / upkeep & guests experience! We will be returning for sure.
September 2019

It was a very fun and different experience. I definitely recommend it. Steve was a great host. Thank you!
September 2019

This place is amazing if you are looking for a wilderness experience. Steve goes above and beyond to help you make your stay comfortable. He has excellent knowledge of surroundings and helped us to make our trip a memorable one. Look forward to see u soon Steve.. :))
September 2019

Such a beautiful place in nature! Star gazing galore with a beautiful campfire and al fresco meals. Waking up here was truly magical; sunshine, birds, butterflies, peace. Would recommend this place to Anyone and everyone. The yurt has everything we needed, Steve had provided cutlery plates a grill, cosy bed and option for indoor fire should you need it. This place will be in our memories forever!
September 2019

This place is UNREAL. After a drive through the most dragonflies and butterflies I think I’ll ever see in my lifetime, my mom and I were promptly greeted by Steve when we arrived, and he most graciously offered to drive our bags up to the cabin so we wouldn’t have to lug anything (my mom is an over-packer of food so we did not pack very light as recommended in the listing-sorry Steve!). After a bit of a hike, we were met with the most spectacular view. It was breathtaking. We diligently watched the forest wall along the valley hoping to catch a glimpse of an animal walk through but were instead gifted with some eagle sightings and the surreal sounds of a wolf pup (or perhaps a coy-wolf) howling! We also heard a moose! We were surprised at the lack of bird sounds with so many trees surrounding us but it allowed us to experience a deafening silence like never before. What a feeling. Once the sun set the crickets came out and so did the stars. WOW. You feel like you don’t have enough eyes to really capture how many you can see (if that makes sense). We enjoyed our evening by the fire pit and it was just so lovely. The morning of checkout Steve and his handsome dog, Inook, so very kindly took us on about an hour’s hike where he showed us some pretty amazing and special things. You feel like you’re part of something so much bigger and we’re so lucky that we were given the opportunity to enjoy it. Thanks a million, Steve! Best of luck with your future projects and what your journey brings you. We were already discussing our return trip on the drive back to Montreal :) Gen & Wendy P.S. Tell Inook we’ll be back with more bacon.
August 2019

J ai offert ce séjour à mon frère pour son anniversaire et il en a été ravi. Une jolie pause en pleine nature et en communion avec celle ci. Un break dans une vie qui peut être à 100 à l heure
August 2019

Steve’s place was exactly as advertised and his hospitality made it all the more welcoming! I’ll be sure to have his place in mind the next time we decide to stay at a cottage!
August 2019

There are very few places left in this world where you can be absolutely alone in the wilderness with wildlife and no people. This place is it!! Absolutely awesome! And Steve was great and really fun to talk to and hang with for a bit. We will be returning many times!
August 2019

We had an amazing weekend. We stayed only one night but would have definitely stayed longer. Yurt’s incredible. Perfect to get our head off technology and routine. Would absolutely recommend!
August 2019

Real nature and outstanding hospitality as always ! Le terrain is a haven for those that appreciate being surrounded by forest and open wilderness. We have stayed in both winter and summer ... very different seasonal experiences but equally enjoyable. Steve is a wonderful host, easygoing and responsive. This is a place to go and relax but also to challenge yourself to some great hikes if that’s what interests you. We’ll be back :-)
August 2019

It’s exactly as advertised. A perfect getaway.
March 2019

This is a great place to unwind and relax away from the city. This off the grid space is beautiful and peaceful and Steve is a great host. He was respectful of our privacy but at the same time he was there if we needed anything. Thank you!
March 2019

Steve is a fantastic host and the property is spectacular! Great getaway not too far outside of the city.
March 2019

Truly a magical place. Steve supplied firewood, water, and all the other amenities we needed, included advice on trails and beautiful vistas to check out. We had a fabulous time exploring on snowshoes with our dog and 4-year old son for the weekend. We enjoyed the hammock, the stars, and were cozy with the little wood stove (also boils water quickly for morning coffee). We cooked on the BBQ the first night, and headed into town for drinks and poutine at the historic Hotel Ladysmith (lots of friendly people, deer heads on the walls, and even a toy room for kids)!
March 2019

The yurt is located in an out-of-the-way area with a short trail to it from the road. If you’re looking to get off the grid and experience a natural setting close up, this is the place for you. Great for a couple who have experience with camping and want to sleep off the ground. The space is small, but every bit of it is used efficiently to provide for your comfort and convenience. Hope for a clear night so you can see the stars. Recommended!
March 2019

Such a wonderful experience! Off grid for real!! no joke :) We saw lots of deer.. heard the wolves howl.. enjoyed the trails, laughed a lot.. and most of all relaxed.. Its soo quiet. Just heaven. I slept in the hamac! That was fun :) Steve is a great host and not too far away. The yurt is nice and warm and cozy.. just beautiful. I can’t wait to go back #offgridrocks
February 2019

We had an awesome time staying in the funky yurt on Steve’s property. The yurt itself is beautiful and very cozy. But Steve and the land are the cherry to the trip. His story and passion for the land and his journey are beautiful. It was a privilege to share our stories one afternoon while getting warm in the cabin that he also rents out, overlooking the river, after a nice ski. The land is epic, saw many dear during our adventures on the trails, and really enjoyed the full moon evenings cozy by the woodstove in the yurt. Great trip. Great landscape. Great guy.
February 2019

Beautiful spot for a dose of wilderness!
January 2019

We stayed in the yurt on a cold weekend in January and had a fantastic time. Checked out the many snowshoeing trails behind Steve’s home that were well groomed and were surrounded by beautiful forest. We BBQ’d, played cards by the fire, read in the hammock. Our German shepherd Levi was off leash the entire weekend and loved every minute. Keep in mind when coming in the winter to bundle up, -30 throughout the night is chilly even with a fire going, but it’s all part of the winter experience! Steve was a super host - he got the fire going prior to our arrival, skidooed our supplies over to the yurt, brought us multiple sleds full of wood, and was there for anything that we needed from him. Highly recommend this place for a winter getaway.
January 2019

What a peaceful place....you are literally surrounded by space full of trees, fresh air and nature for as far as the eye can see. It’s incredible that it’s only an hour or so from Gatineau. We stayed in the cabin, it’s off grid and rustic, but has more than everything you need to be comfortable, even in freezing weather. Plenty of firewood and candles...and the indoor eco-toilet was appreciated. The propane stove works great and the water installation over the sink make this an easy experience for anyone used to being at a cottage. Steve is an exceptional host, very responsive and positive....and is truly considerate in every way including being respectful of our privacy. The hiking is a welcome challenging experience, Steve can assist getting to the cabin but you can choose to hike as much as you’d like on the steep terrain through the forest! We checked out Steve’s yurt on the other side of the property, it looked fantastic and we’re looking forward to giving it a try. Bottom line, for nature lovers that love a bit of isolation, awesome hiking options and enjoy the rustic off grid experience, this is a great place to be. Thanks Steve!
January 2019

Steve was an amazing host and provided us with an amazingly unique experience. The yurt is everything you would expect a yurt to be - cozy, wild and peaceful. Steve came to check up on us after we got there and even provided us with extra flashlights, candles and supplies to enhance our stay. The location is amazing as you are surrounded by countless trails, trees and a perfect stay in the winter or summer. If you are looking for a place where you can unwind, meditate and experience true silence away from the hustle and bustle of the city - this is the right place for you. I’d recommend bringing plenty of warm clothes because despite the fact that the wood stove is warm and cozy, you’ll probably still get cold at night.
January 2019

Fun yurt and amazing property. The yurt is equipped with all the basics, the wood stove is more than sufficient to heat the place. Wood and water were brought daily as needed. Groomed trails were gorgeous to snowshoe. Anyone looking for an adventurous snowshoe or cross country try should consider. Otherwise, relaxing was the only other way to describe it!
January 2019

Steve’s place was a great winter getaway from the city. Our Dog had the freedom to explore Steve’s beautiful land, and we had the pleasure of hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing the countless trails therein. Steve went above and beyond to make sure that he did everything to let us have the best trip possible.
January 2019

The yurt was an amazing experience! We were not expecting it to be as cute as it was :) We loved that it was far enough from the road/main house to be private, but still close enough just in case we needed anything. The wood stove provided plenty of warmth the entire time, and the yurt even had a hammock that’s the perfect reading spot. Steve was terrific; he checked in with us frequently to make sure we were okay on food and wood, and he gave us trail tips. He was very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to have us there. The woods are breathtaking in the winter; it was particularly amazing waking up to a foot of snow on our last day! We brought our snowshoes and hiked all around the woods up to the lookout point. We would 100% recommend this spot and are planning to return!
December 2018

Steve’s cabin is great! My wife and I visited for two nights in the winter. We kept it toasty warm in the cabin at night, and went snowshoeing during the day.
December 2018

The Yurt was amazing! It was a beautiful area to explore with snowshoes. The Yurt stays very warm with the oven and we never felt cold inside. Beautiful view of the stars at night and super quiet. Steve provided everything we needed. Thank you for this cool experience :)
December 2018

Our stay was magical! Steve was a great host and super caring and helpful. Being out in the snowy wilderness and letting our two dogs roam away was just perfect. We will be coming back!
November 2018

My husband and I had a wonderful woodsy stay - so cozy in the yurt in the woods in the snow! It’s not a long walk at all (closer to five minutes than ten) but it feels very secluded once you’ve arrived. The accommodations are as advertised - quite rustic, but all the essentials! If you’re planning a winter trip, we’d recommend packing your warmest sleeping bag, big fuzzy socks, your hot drink of choice, and a good book (or board game!). Get settled in then curl up by the fire and enjoy the quiet. The yurt won’t disappoint.
November 2018

Steve was a fantastic host. He was very responsive, helpful and cheerful. During the evening, we were hit with an unexpected large amount of snow. Steve, at the time of check out, came to see if we needed any help getting our tiny car out of the snow. It was very helpful. The yurt was an amazing getaway. It was very clean, well stocked with firewood, and included all the basic necessities. We had an amazing time being there and enjoyed walking along the near trails. This is an amazing destination- highly recommend.
November 2018

Steve’s yurt really is a wonderful place to get away - really away. If you want to enjoy nature and are willing and able to ‘rough it’ I would highly recommend this property. There was a good supply of firewood, water and ice for our stay along with a BBQ outside plus a fire pit area and lots of additional firewood. The yurt had enough space to store everything we brought along. With windows all around plus the sky light we were even able to enjoy the stars from inside. We had brought along our own portable power supply for music and backup lighting. Although we ended up with snow limiting our exploration outside, the area is secluded yet not too far from the host’s property (15 min walk) and a short drive for amenities. Steve was always prompt responding and straightforward with everything we needed to know. We are already planning another stay in the late Spring!

Beautiful and cozy place! Everything you see is what you get :) Great views and Steve is really a great host! He is available whenever you need him and will go out of his way to make you feel comfortable. This weekend was really a great escape from reality and really helps you disconnect for a while! A great getaway for anyone who is looking to get away from technology and to reconnect with our roots!

Beautiful spot, just as advertised. If you’re lucky enough to get a clear night, the stars are breathtaking out here! Great communication from Steve

The land that Steve is caring for and opening to the airbnb community is special. Undeveloped and uncontaminated, the woods here offer a quiet and nourishing respite from not just the noise and busy-ness of the city, but even from the human chaos of small town living. At points, I heard no sound...not even a cricket, not even the soft swoosh and swish of the wind through the leaves, not even my breath. My muscles and bones began to remember they didn’t need to tense in order to hold me up. My mind began to break free from the grip of thought. The cabin is sparse in the best of ways...simple, warm, and without pretention. I was there alone for a few days and Steve made sure to make me feel welcome and cared for...if I needed anything he was just a text away. I spent my time there walking the trails, reading, eating, and sitting under the glow of the sun and moon. If you’re thinking of coming here, I encourage you to do so. Let the forest speak to you. Let your inner self speak to you. In the words of acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton, “...quiet is important and we need silence. That silence is not a luxury, but it’s essential...When you’re in a quiet place, your listening horizon extends for miles in every direction...when we just let it exist, it feeds our soul.”

Once of the best air bnbs weve ever rented. This is the perfect place if you’re looking to be a notch above camping comfort-wise and to serve as a base camp for exploring the forest. Ecology buffs will have a field day poking around the different parts of the woods. I would rate the trails as easy to intermediate, but note that these are not the manicured trails of a national park- in some places we had to pick our small dogs up because the brush was very dense and they may be challenging for small children. That was the best part! You are completely (completely!) alone and free to explore to your heart’s content. I would definitely recommend asking Steve for directions to the wetland area- stunning. Steve was very responsive and hospitable, checking in by text every day to make sure we hadn’t fallen off a cliff or run out of ice but otherwise leaving us completely to our solitude! We would definitely go back.

Staying at Steve’s cabin was amazing! Me and my partner decided to try this place out in lieu of camping this year, and now we are already making plans to go back! The cabin was everything I had hoped for (as a lover of neat, and tiny homes/architecture) and the view was everything my boyfriend had hoped for (as a photographer). Highlights: the games for when we were too tired to venture out, the super cool (and comfy!) lofted bed, the screened porch over the view, and the absolute tranquility.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
