Protecting the Night: Education, Outreach & Awareness at LeTerrain’s Dark Sky Preserve
At LeTerrain, the stars aren’t just overhead—they’re part of the story we tell on the land. Our newly recognized Dark Sky Preserve is a place of stillness and awe, where ancient stones meet modern astronomy, and where silence returns to the night. But preserving darkness isn’t just about turning off lights—it’s about turning on awareness.
Our Mission
The Dark Sky Initiative at LeTerrain is rooted in three pillars:
- Education – empowering the next generation of stargazers and sky stewards
- Outreach – connecting our community to the cosmos through events and resources
- Awareness – helping all visitors understand the ecological, cultural, and spiritual importance of natural darkness
Whether you’re an astronomer, a teacher, a family looking for a different kind of weekend, or simply someone who misses the stars—we welcome you.

Dark skies are disappearing at an alarming rate. LeTerrain is dark. Very dark. The core area of the park has a nighttime sky quality level up to 22.3 mag/arcsec2. The sky on a clear night is spectacular!
Through its Earth & Sky Foundation, LeTerrain is now poised to become a Canada’s 22nd Designated Dark-Sky Site, and is in discussions with the Royal Canadian Astronomical Society of Canada on next steps.
The Foundation received $15,000 through the La Pêche Green Fund to explore the creation of a dark sky park for amateur astronomers, including control measures to minimize light pollution across the area.
