When the lights go out, the stars turn on

Stargate is the first cabin at LeTerrain designed and placed for one thing: the darkest sky within reach of the city, straight overhead. A loft bed for two sits under a four-foot skylight, so the last thing you see before sleep is the Milky Way. Off the grid, past the end of the road, inside Canada’s newest dark sky preserve.

A skylight over the bed

Four feet of glass set into the roof, directly above the loft. No screen, no ceiling, no glow from town, and nothing to do but lie there and look up.

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

Stargate runs on sun, propane and firewood. It is set up so that being off the grid takes no skill at all. You bring bedding, food and ice, and the cabin does the rest.

Stargate was framed in the middle of winter and finished as the seasons turned. Pine from the land, and a rafter beam out of one of the property’s 100-year-old barns. Step inside, then watch it go up.
